Academic Course

As a complement to classes during the academic-school-year course, the ESDES Director of Student Services organizes and promotes a series of extracurricular activities such as cultural events and sports that allow the students to be introduced to still more Spanish culture.  These activities try to create an atmosphere in which the students get a better idea about daily Spanish life.

These activities include:

Guided tours of Sagunto and Valencia,   Guided tours of Sagunto and Valencia, visits to museums and monuments of historical importance, accompanied by the professors of History and Art.
Theatres (opening night of plays), music (classical music concerts and others), audiovisuals, conferences, expositions, workshops (earning to dance Sevillanas dancing), cinema (opening night of Spanish films), museums, sporting events (football matches, basketball), participation in popular athletic races.
Choir and Orchestra. Students have the option of being part of the campus Music, Choir and Orchestra programs. In the beginning of the school-year, students will have to audition. After that, the group that will form the choir will be selected. In addition, students that play a musical instrument can join the orchestra.

During the school year, there are rehearsals two times a week. There are trips to different places in Spain at the end of the year in which they present their repertoire.
Sports. Sports: During the weekdays there are a variety of sports and activities that one can participate in.  Aerobics, basketball, football, and volleyball are some of the most popular sports. In order to do so, the campus has a gym and two football fields. Once or twice a term there are competitions with other teams in and out of Valencia. These competitions are held during the weekends.
Folklore. As well as Folklore Course, which is taught as part of the Academic Program, we offer the opportunity to learn how to dance Sevillanas with qualified instructors. These classes are extracurricular and are formed by small groups of Spanish and non-Spanish-speaking students. Subsequently, when the class has gained a certain level, they present the dance to the public as a part of the cultural-activities organized by ESDES.
Humourous Programs. During the weekends, especially Saturday nights, fun activities are organized. Programs are of different types and themes, such as  International Night (in which students from different countries represented on campus participate),  theatrical plays, talent shows, etc. This type of dynamic favours the integration of students in the social life of the campus benefiting them in the learning of the language.
Spiritual Programs. In reference to the dorm, students are encouraged to participate in worships that are held five days a week (from Sunday to Thursday) that last half an hour. Also, spiritual programs are held in the Campus Chapel during Friday nights and Sabbath mornings. These different activities help students in their spiritual growth as well as in their acquisition of the Spanish language. This is accomplished by songs of praise, debates, and spiritual dialogues in which student participation is required.

Students will be informed by the ESDES Department of the cultural agenda during each term.

Summer Course

These activities include:

Beach We offer excursions to the beach 2 to 3 times a week.

Guided tours of Sagunto and Valencia.   Guided tours of Sagunto and Valencia, visits to museums and monuments of historical importance, accompanied by the professors of History and Art.


Workshops/Clubs. We offer the following workshops to students: Sevillanas (learning to dance it), film (Spanish movies), hands-on, theatre, music, cooking, etc.  The workshops/clubs are under the responsibility of Spanish monitors and are offered in the afternoons.


Monitors. Each group of 6 or 7 students is assigned to a Spanish monitor in order to practice conversational Spanish.  Monitors are Spanish students in high school or university.  They are at the disposal of students between 1:30 pm and 10:30 pm every day except Sabbath and Friday.  On Fridays their hours are from 1:30 pm to 9 pm.  They accompany students on all excursions and extracurricular activities.
